Mac Os Still Waiting For Root

Been wrestling with this issue for a few days now - The host unit is an iMac6,1 (Late 2006)

Commonly Asked Questions Q: What are the solutions to the 'Still waiting for root device' messageA: The most common solution is making your OSX drive the primary IDE. Try disconnecting all the other hard drives, make the OSX drive IDE0, using either cable-select or Master jumper settings. I have a copy of Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Server. I am trying to install it on VirtualBox 4.1.26 that is running on Mac OS 10.8. I switched from VirtualBox 4.2.12 to 4.1.26 because I read on line that 4.1.26 worked for installation of 10.6 Server but 4.2.12 did not. My attempt at installation ends by infinitely looping on 'Still waiting for root device'. In Verbose mode it crashes half way, a 'no entry' icon pops up and the last text says 'Still waiting for root device'. I followed all the instructions one by one. I tried it in multiple USB drives and different ports; tried creating the installation drive with Unibeast and Terminal. Long time no see to this old friend called 'Still waiting for root device'. But with 10.5.7 the time had come again. As some of the tipps we compiled below helped us there is no warranty that it will help you. As the reasons for this funky brother are too indifferent. Used Hardware Gigabyte GA EP35 DS3 Gigabyte nVidia GeForce 7600 GT 256MB (Device ID 0x0391) HP w2207 TFT (w/ integra. Topic says it.can't install due to 'still waiting for root device'. I've taken a Mac OS X 10.6 Server DVD, created a cdr image of it in OS X (due to the fact that the DVD is dual layer, and the Windows machine here has only a single layer DVD), and attached it to IDE Primary.

Mac os still waiting for root canal, OS X 10.6.8 installed, running VirtualBox v4.3.8 r92456. The install media is a known-good bootable disk image of 10.6.8 on an external HDD which we use to image other Macs on a daily basis.Root
I've tried this with a VB profile for both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Snow Leopard, using all default settings, both of which exhibit the same symptoms: The profile fires up and looks like it's attempting to launch, then hangs indefinitely, repeating the same message 'Still waiting for root device' every ~30 seconds or so. Screenshot for reference:

I've Googled the issue and ran across a similar previous post, wherein the consensus seemed to be that this error appears when the host unit is unable to natively support the OS you're trying to install on the VM. Except in this case, the host unit can support 10.4.7 > 10.7.5...
Any foresight or suggestions would be appreciated!
